Admire Paris from above taking a tour in Montparnasse tower. Montparnasse tower was built between 1969 and the end of 1972 where there was the old station. So it was opened in 1973. The yard was huge, imagine 56 concrete pillars put 70m underground to prop up such a building! Montparnasse tower was intentionally built over an underground line which needed new reinforcing structures and repairing of train lanes.
Montparnasse tower is in the heart of a real estate group including also a shopping centre. One of the main characteristics of this tower is that the roof can be also a runway for helicopters. When it was built, Montparnasse tower was criticized for its height, since it looks poor next to the other Parisian buildings. Today it is actually forbidden to build more than 7 floors high buildings in Paris.
