It extends on 55 hectares, 35 of which lie on the surface. La Villette Park is the largest open space in Paris and the “prototype of the urban park of the 21st century”.
La Villette Park was built on the settlement of Paris’ old slaughterhouses and that was something new at that time since animal slaughter was up to then considered as anarchical. This gave evocative names to some streets, not existing now: flaying street, slaughter street… La Villette Park was conceived by architect Bernard Tschumi and it is an important oxygen reserve for Parisians, a vast place to explore by feet or by bike…that’s an inducement to relaxing and playing, to dreaming and discovering.
